Do I need to service my hot water system?

Yes, and regularly. It is heating water, expanding and contracting, building and releasing pressure day in and day out. Yet it is often the most neglected and overlooked appliance in houses. Most modern water heaters have a life expectancy of between 7-10 years. Check your manufacturers and trade recommendations to see if your unit needs to be serviced every 5 years, annual or bi-annual maintenance.

Are gas hot water systems energy efficient?

Energy efficiency depends on daily water usage. For example, tankless hot water systems that use 155L or fewer can be 24-34% more energy-efficient than regular hot water systems. Whereas tankless hot water systems that use greater than 325L daily can be 8-14% more energy-efficient.

What is a hot water heat pump system?

Hot water heat pumps (also known as ‘air source heat pumps’) are a type of hot water system that absorbs heat from the air and transfers it to heat water. They use electricity to operate the fan and compressor, but because they do not use electricity to heat the water, they are around three times more energy efficient than a conventional electric hot water system. This means they only require a third of the power of a conventional electric hot water system.

How much can solar hot water system save me?

How much you save depends on your existing system. If your old system is an electric water heater, then you are likely to save more. Your current energy tariffs and how your new solar system is installed may also have an impact. The biggest savings on hot water bills are seen when replacing an electric water heater on a continuous tariff.
